Students and parents will receive much information about the things coming up this school year.
This event is to welcome ALL students and parents to the new school year! Everyone will receive a welcoming packet and all will find out what things have changed and what has stayed the same. Remember, the evening is structured with HS Orientation beginning at 5:30 PM for all 9th graders, new students, and their parents, then the Open House begins at 7:15 PM for all 10-12th graders (returning students), and their parents. iSPIN stands for "Iowa Sustaining Parental Involvement Network". The CMCSD was awarded a grant for each building during the 2008-09 school year to implement this program which helps better link students, parents, teachers and administrators.
Some of the research findings indicate:
√ Programs and interventions that engage families in supporting
their children´s learning at home are linked to higher achievement.
√ Families of all cultural backgrounds, education, and income levels
can and often do, have a positive influence on their children´s learning.
√ Family and community involvement that is linked to student learning
has a greater effect on achievement than more general forms of involvement.
√ The More families that support their children´s learning and
educational progress, both in quantity and over time, the more their children
tend to do well in school and continue their education.
√ Programs that successfully connect with families and communities
invite involvement, are welcoming and address specific parental and community
needs.
√ The evidence is consistent, positive and convincing: Many forms
of family and community involvement influence student achievement.

Calendar Links (above)
These are the calendars that will be given out this year in August at Open House/Orientation. The ACT Test Dates and deadlines are also on these calendars too. They will become active after August 16, 2010.
Homework Guidelines
To better explain the role of homework at CMHS, iSPIN has been working on creating homework guidelines. These guidelines will give parents a basic idea of the expectations for homework at CMHS. If you would like to see the document, click here.
Classroom Visit Policy
Did you know that as a parent, you can visit the school or volunteer during the school day? iSPIN has been working on developing a specific classroom visit policy that will welcome all visitors to the HS and give them specific information about their visit. These will be in place this year. More information will be presented at Orientation/Open House.
Parent Center
This is a new thing iSPIN has been working to create. It will be a place where parents can go to get resources about specific things concerning parenting (books, magazines, DVD's, etc.), plus will have computer access so parents can check Parent Online and internet sites related to student achievement. We are still working on location, items to include, etc., so if you have any ideas, just let a committee member know! We want to give parents access to information concerning student achievement.
Website and More!
We'll try to keep you updated through this website. Also, anyone can attend our meetings. The SCC is still attending training meetings this year, so more information is coming!
