The Colfax-Mingo Community School District welcomes Jim Verlengia, Ed.D., as its new superintendent this month. Dr. Verlengia comes to the District as part of a partnership agreement with Heartland Area Education Agency (AEA) and will serve our schools for the 2017-18 school year. Dr. Verlengia brings with him previous superintendent experience and served in a similar interim capacity in the Colo-NESCO and Martensdale-St. Marys school districts. Dr. Verlengia has held various leadership positions within Heartland AEA, most recently Director of Leadership Supports.

His educational career also includes serving as superintendent of the Lewis Central Schools in Council Bluffs, middle school principal in Council Bluffs, K-8 principal in Woodward-Granger and teacher in Waukee.

In his Director of Leadership Supports position, Dr. Verlengia enjoys serving the superintendents, administrative teams and boards of education in the Heartland AEA service area. Dr. Verlengia is looking forward to getting to know the students, parents and community members in the Colfax-Mingo School District.

Outside of work, Dr. Verlengia enjoys spending time with his wife, Patti, their three children and five grandchildren.

2017-2018 Yearly School Calendar -- Approved 4-17-17


 The Colfax-Mingo Community School District is a system serving approximately 741 students for the communities of Colfax, Mingo, Ira, and Valeria.  Elementary grades K-6 and the Jr-Sr High School grades 7-12 are located in Colfax.

The district-wide focus is on meeting the individual educational needs of each student.  There is a complete technology program, kindergarten through high school, with computer labs for use by all students.  Jr & Sr High students each have access to Chromebooks. There is a strong relationship with the community as evidenced by the completion of a new elementary and high school attendance centers, including community centers designed to meet the needs of the students and persons of the community.  

Colfax-Mingo students will be exposed to a strong basic education with the best learning environment possible.  The district is a member of the South Iowa Cedar League [SICL] Activities Conference and offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities in both arts and athletics.
